10 Things You Can Do for Your Business During Covid-19
Has business slowed down for you during the shelter-in-place? Many owners are wondering what they can do on the back-end of their business to either:
a. lean into online marketing / selling and social media, which is where people are hanging out right now!
– or –
b. get their branding ready for when they can reopen!
Here are 10 ideas for ELEVATING YOUR business BRAND during this time:
1. Think about your client experience. Look back to great experiences you’ve had with a business where everything ran smoothly and easily. How can you replicate that feeling?
2. Define your ideal client / customer. Is your target market men ages 30-50? New moms? Teenagers? Defining the demographics of your most common or ideal customer is key to successfully marketing to them.
3. Write a blog post. Have some tips relative to your industry that you can share? Add a new blog post to your website, and share it on social media or in an email to your clients. This not only positions you as an expert, but regular updates to your website increase visibility on search engines.
4. Plan a branding photo shoot. This is more than just a headshot. I’m talking about having a photographer capture you in action, beautifully. A picture is worth a thousand words, right??
Having a library of high quality photos of you at work is such a great investment, and will instantly elevate your website and social media. Maybe you can’t have a shoot in your area right now, or your roots are showing ???? You can still plan by researching photographers, looking at Pinterest for inspiration, etc.
Here are a few of my favorite Bay Area options: Lara George, Janae Greene Creative, Pooja Photography, Emily Kim, South & West Photo, and Tararat Photography.
5. Audit your website. Make sure it still represents you well, and that your information is up to date.
6. Create email templates. Are you spending a lot of time composing emails when responding to leads, following up with clients, etc.? Save yourself some time by setting up customizable email templates for different situations you often encounter in your business.
7. Make sure it is easy to find you online. Are you on Yelp? Google My Business? Facebook? Even if you aren’t planning on posting consistently to these platforms, it’s important to at least have a page set up so that people can tag you when making recommendations.
8. Develop an email list. If you haven’t already enlisted a service like MailChimp, gather up all of your contacts, clients and subscribers’ email addresses in one convenient place so that you can quickly send updates when necessary.
9. Create standard procedures. Do you have standard operating procedures written out for how you interact with clients and vendors? This might be a good time to get everything organized and in writing. Hiring employees and on-boarding clients will be easy-peasy!
10. Step up your social media. Check out your feeds. Are your profile (round avatar and banner) graphics crisp and professional? Think about your target market / ideal client from #2… where do they hang out? LinkedIn? Instagram? Wherever they are, you should be too! You can pick one platform and just show up consistently.
The truth is that this pandemic is probably going to go on for a lot longer than any of us would like. We might as well use the time (if you’re one of the businesses that has slowed down) to work on some back-end processes and marketing so that you will be that much stronger and ready to go when things open up!
